Althea D. Williams is a retired U.S. Army Veteran, wife, mother of five, and grandmother to Rylee. She lives in Dallas but grew up in Los Angeles. Althea often considered entering the military because her favorite uncle and as others had done so, but she ultimately chose college.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational studies from Pitzer College and an MBA from the University of La Verne. In undergrad, she became deeply interested in advanced community studies thanks to her favorite professors who helped prepare her for advanced community studies.
Althea’s family is full of successful entrepreneurs, community leaders and military veterans, and they collectively influenced her career interest in community building. She worked as executive director of a chamber of commerce and assisted the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in California. She later moved to Dallas to accept a job with the city — and then a year later the recession hit.
In 2010, during the recession, she joined the Army and served her country as an aviation operations specialist; she completed a nine-month tour in Afghanistan and a three-year tour in Germany. After losing several aircrafts of battle buddies, suffering with PTSD and surviving a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) from a near-fatal accident, Althea ended her military career.
While still working on her recovery, she resumed where she left off in casual community work but for women veterans. She is the founder of the virtual group, “She Vets It,” established in 2017.
